Workbox: Desk of the Future
The School Construction Authority of New York commissioned Workbox as a "desk of the future" to serve the need for simultaneous digital and analog skill development. In overcrowded school environments that sometimes use cafeterias and gyms as temporary classrooms, it can also provide a mobile "home base" for an individual student. Workbox has an oversized desk surface with a flip up compartment, a built in chair, and a coat hook. It can be grouped into various group configurations that foster social interaction but can also provide some separation across the raised lid.
The desk is made of molded plywood, with magnetic and writable laminate surfaces. The aluminum hinge and caps are custom designed extrusions that earned the desk a utility Patent #5,967,600.
